Re-Inventing Yourself - or What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?
Sometimes we get to a point in our life when we ask ourselves...What the hell are we doing? or Is there a better way to make a living? Traditionally this happens at certain milestones of our career or careers. Beginning , middle and end! Has anyone heard of the middle age crazies or the Baby Boomer Blahs! Or as the commercials say - have we ever had an AHA moment? That's when people throw caution to the wind and go from being a certified, citified stock broker to a certified, bearded, brown bear wrestler, mountain man. Well, I am not suggesting anything so radical...but I am suggesting that you look into your soul and find out what makes you happy, what are your assets and liabilities in your character and experiences and what can you do to make yourself happy and make money! We live in a country that has offered opportunities to people who have seen their dreams come true; immigrants who came to this country penniless and became millionaires, homeless people who became CEOs, and inventors who had the right idea at the right time. We all don't have to strive to be rich and famous. Some of us just want the quiet life writing the great American novel with a dog by their feet and sipping a pot of hot tea, or others want to enjoy the company of their children and grandchildren in a nice comfortable home in a nice comfortable neighborhood.
Unfortunately this economy has threatened a lot of our current life styles. Some of us have had to change careers because we lost our jobs, some are still looking for employment, others have just given up. These are times that we have to think out of the box and be creative. It is good to be creative - this gives us opportunities to rethink our wants and needs and an opportunity to re-invent ourselves.
Don't be afraid - there are alot of ways to make money (and even a lot of money - if that is your wish) but sometimes we have to think out of the box. And for those in a job that is not quite satisfying - it is also time to think about what makes you happy and what are you other options in the job force.
How do you do that? - go to part II!
